Abstract
This paper presents the development of a multimedia application, whose main goal
is the improvement of the living conditions of people who suffer from the Alzheimer’s disease,
using the help of those who take care of them. This project focuses on the caregivers, by trying
to find an efficient way to organise their activities without them having to invest more time.
It also tries not to add extra work for them but to assist them in performing the existing tasks.
The research methodology is based on the following four basic steps which de ne the application
development. Those are the analysis, the design, the production and the evaluation. The final
result is accomplished by determining the needs of end users, by identifying their particular
social characteristics, by recognising the demands of the final user tool and by analysing the
technology terms and conditions. This project also includes the role of interaction media in the
wider health care system, the basic functionality of the different systems that are developed,
as well as the need of evaluating them. Furthermore the general scenario of the application is
recorded together with five more specific scenarios in order to define their capabilities.
The description of these scenarios through sketches is presented and also their placement in a
numbered sequence is shown. The design standards are de ned and the chart outline is formed,
displaying the screen categories. This work also contains the prototype of the end-user tool,
as modi ed in accordance with the standards set under the analysis. At last, the application
is evaluated and the findings of both the evaluation results and the wider research is presented.
